RACE EVENTS

Five races down for the Spring Series so far (3 points and 2 non points) with 3 point racing events to go . . . .

Oak Hill / Small Bore Challenge

What a great prepared track. With recent rains and skilled tractor work, the track was just picture perfect. Very vintage friendly with a few changes out of their normal track to make it safe for the TVRC riders. A little windy (40-50 mph per Tony the night before) but very pleasant race day weather.

Feature Race -Small Bore Challenge

Joe Busby won the event with a perfect 1/1 finish. Second place to Mark " Dr. Kawasaki" Brown and Scott Anderson finishing up third. Tim " I had 2 bikes blow up on me " Riddle and perennial fast guys Craig Knight, Ken Walden, Lee Simon and John Fricke each suffered mechanical problems.

RACE EVENTS

Three races down for the Spring Series (2 points and 1 non points) and 5 events

to go.

WACO EAGLES...

Talk about an interesting race. Several of us traveled down 35 on Saturday and

the Waco Eagles went out of their way to help the TVRC have a great event.

Great weather Saturday afternoon when we arrived but about 6:30 am on

Sunday morning the misting/rain started and continued for about an hour. It was

hard to walk in the pits after the rain and the track was soo bad that the group

wasn't much interest in racing. The event was postponed until noon with

practice at 11:00am. The initial practice was still keeping the vintage troops on

the sidelines. Galen Carleton was one of the only brave soles to go out and

practice the first round of vintage practice.

The Early Favorite to win the Waco vintage class was this bad boy ( girl?)

Sole survivor of first round of Vintage Practice.

Man did Galen give it heck. He was running fast and using the whole track. The

modern bikes were having even more trouble with the occasional sideways turn

in the middle of a straight way. As the last vintage practice started we had about

6 people ready to give her a try and we ended up with 14 riders by the end of

the day – Kudos to those who rode. Turns out the track wasn't too bad and got

better as the day continued. The Waco club ran the front portion of the track for

the first moto and the complete track for the second motos. Hard to believe but

the second motos were perfect!!! The track had dried enough to become as

good as Waco ever gets. The MX Gods were looking after us. . . .

OKLAHOMA...

Four hour each way for the Ft. Worth / Dallas guys. We had 6 TVRC racers line

up against the Oklahoma Vintage guys. The Oklahoma riders are a tough bunch

- not for show but all for performance! Those guys can ride!!! The track had

some initial wet spots but just like Waco – the track ended up really nice and

had soil that was a cross between Whitney / Mosier. The track had snow earlier

during the week but didn't hurt the course at all.

It was Trey Jorski day at the Oklahoma track. It was fun to watch Trey give the

kids a few lessons on going really fast. Trey took time a the end of the event to

sign the winners' plaques. Jim and Jeff Simon's were the ultimate hosts and

went out of their way to make everyone from TVRC feel welcomed.

SHERMAN

Our third race was N40's annual Bike Week /Jim Pomeroy Memorial Vintage

race. David always puts on a great race and was a wonderful host. Friday night

we enjoyed a free dinner of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with free beer to

wash it down. Later that night we all enjoyed a little karaoke!!

Saturday featured flat track races...more Karaoke and the on Sunday Vintage

MX races.. The track was a challenge for many of the riders but was still fun.

One of the high lights of the weekend was the new singing sensation “ TVRC

Singers”. As a fund raiser we are offering their new CD box set for 39.95 +

shipping. Please contact any member to get your order in early.

TRIVIA QUESTION

Who rode & where was the first TVRC exhibition race? Answer at the end of the newsletter

UPCOMING RACE EVENT

TVRC has taken a week off in preparation for the the next series of races and

took time off to watch the inaugural race at the new Cowboy Stadium. Snow and

cold weather was the order of the day but we had a great time.

Oak Hill race **GP Small Bore Challenge ( 1976-1981 ** 200cc and under ) will be on

Trivia Answer: The first exhibition race was ridden at Mosier Valley night track. The riders were Bill Newkirk

on a 450 Husky, Jack Thompson on a DKW, and Tom Aylett on a Penton. The exhibition race was to start the

club and a recruiting event for the first real race held at Burleson in 1988.

Thanks! See you at the first turn . . . . .

YEAR END BANQUET

The year end banquet at Humperdinck’s was a huge success with Big THANKS going out to all that made it possible – Ken, Tony, Craig, Mike, Skip, Albert, Valerie and her friend Beth and sponsors David  Henry from North 40 and Dallas Webb of Yamaha- Suzuki of North Texas in Hurst.   There were over 110 in attendance and additional tables had to be set up at the last minute which is representative of the success of this event.  Although fun was had by all, we did have time for a little business.   The new 2010 officers elected. . .

Tony Moseley – President

Craig Knight - Vice President

Rick Oestricher - Secretary

Ken Walden - Treasuer

Martin Brazil – Editor

Steve Wise was the featured speaker and a great supporter of TVRC.  You defiantly missed something special if you were not in attendance to hear Steve recount his many racing stories and antidotes from years past.   http://stevewise.com/

Keep Paul Olson in your thoughts. He's going to San Diego for a trial program for Melanoma. He was diagnosed with stage 4 in November. Paul says he feels fine, but when you are diagnosed with stage four you have time bombs in your system and don't know what will happen next. While he's going through the trial he and his daughter are going on a 5 day cruise to Mexico while they have a week in between. I remember the day I was going to stay in bed because it rained the night before. Then called myself a pussy, got up and made it in time to jump out of the truck for practice at Burleson. One of my funner days too I remember. Gary Moore
It going to snow here tomorow. It snowed 12" a week ago last Thursday. I thought Texas was immune. We did squeeze a ride at Waco. It rained  Saturday night and the place was soaked. When they had open practice one guy made 2 laps.  He was on a 1980 CR250 with bad shocks and his first crash took out his rear fender. He was here from Austin on his debut vintage race and he was gonna ride.15 signed in and I thought it would be motorcycle sacrifice. He inspired others but some still swore they were not gonna attempt riding. Even Booger Martin knew better. About an hour of this went on and sun came out and the track began to dry. One by one a few more practiced and were not too muddy as they came in. Finally after we watched the first moto Joe and I couldn't take it any more and signed in late. I never got geared up so quick. I fired up the KTM and was late for my start in moto 3 and the track was perfect. They ran the back section the second set of motos and it was the best it's ever been. I made history buy winning the inaugural overall in the Over 60 class. Rain has scared off any competition and I was the only one.
