Hello, Tvrc members and welcome to my Holiday Newsletter. Speaking
of holidays what a special event the Priddy Memorial turned out to
be. Perhaps, we should make it a National Vintage Holiday. The
Priddy Memorial had 60 plus solid entrees' we were to adjust for all
our classes we did not run I would suppose the entrees would have
surpassed 100.Our President Michael Shelby certainly served notice
Tvrc has the awards. How he did it I don't know but Mike gave away
30 certificates for brand new Dunlop Tires. Turns out David Henry
helped out here also. Thank you to both for rewarding the
contestants. When I put my pencil to it my figures say that half of
the participants got all there money spent for entry back in tires.
I don't believe there is a club in the nation that returns more to
the members than Tvrc.Among the participants rewarded were not only
Tvrc members but also Ahrma guys who traveled for the National the
following day. Several who I took time to speak to said they would
be back for Tvrc races and enjoyed our club and the value it brings
to Vintage Racing.
In attendance of note was "Skylab Dennis Hawthorne". Dennis did
serve notice to Kirk Spencer that he would need to ride at his best.
However what I enjoyed was just watching those two guys chat in the
pits. It was obvious to this editor they both shared respect for one
another. Truthfully Kirk did win both motos , however to be fair to
Dennis it was his first ride on a old bike .Dennis put on quite a
ride. Also in attendance was my mystery rider complete with tweed
jacket and a at3mx Yamaha. He was seen roosting the berms jacket
flapping in the breeze. John Desoto was our special guest, I spent
time talking with him and learned what a great guy he is. He told me
some old stories and we talked some about his political
contributions to Hawaii. Another event I noticed was Joe Edwards.
How great it was to see Joe on a bike. He has all these bikes he
lets others ride. He even puts bikes in our displays as needed .Yet
he rarely rides. Great to see you ride Joe. Joe is a true asset to
TVRC.Also Bob McNamara stayed the night . How did yaw do that Bob?
Must have had a kitchen pass. Team green was in full force with the
Team green twins Moseley and Vaughn. Jims bike was a bit Wonky Jaw
as Tony says however it did win best bike in the judging the next
morning.Congrats James. Perhaps yaw need to look into wonky jaw.
The most memorable event would be the spreading of Mike Crowley's
ashes in the first turn . The ashes were spread and spelled
Wfo.Keller his brother spread them. I wonder in my mind just how
many racers will ever have this honor. Mike was special. Way to go
Keller. And very nice speech by our President Shelby.
We have two events for December. Montalba is December 2nd paying
double points and River Valley is December 16th.Try to fit one or
both into your busy holiday schedule.
Which leaves me with my annual Xmas Poem. Dashing through the dirt
on a 6 speed Kx250.Over the hills we go , chasing Oestricher all the
way.Bermshots on my goggles, grabbing one more gear. Oh what fun it
is to ride a kx up Oestricher's butt. The Motocross Poet and Tvrc
newsletter Editor Jack Thompson.

TVRC
Newsletter October 2007 |
|
|
|
Hello, hope all is well with everyone .I have been derelict and not
wrote a newsletter for sometime. Our President Mike Shelby pointed
this out over the weekend and I hope to redeem myself. We have a
full agenda for the remaining part of 2007.And for 2008 we have even
more. The fall of 2008 we celebrate our 20th season of "Motocross
for the fun of it". For those who don't know TVRC was formed July
1988 and the first race was held at Burleson Mx Park. To provide a
brief history Bill Newkirk coined the term "Motocross for the fun of
it .Chester Czakowski the owner of Burleson was most instrumental in
the success of TVRC by kicking back to the club part of the entry
fee. Tony Moseley the "King of negotiation " was able to implement
this statewide with other tracks to insure the perpetual funding of
the club.
Many have been involved and are frequently mentioned .But I want to
name a few more. John Fricke, Mark Andrews, Dave Bell, Dave Allard,
Joe Busby , Tom Aylett, Mike Hance, Richard Martin, Patty Busby,
Sherry Fricke, Cathy Newkirk, Tony Moseley, Larry Ashley, Mike
Hance. These guys and gals are the brains behind TVRC and without
them TVRC would not have had a chance. The first President is not
exactly known for his IQ nor his endearing diplomatic nature." He
really doesn't know". This group of people among others all brought
different quality's to the table. Combined and as a group they were
able to form the TVRC. Special thanks to Bill Newkirk who co founded
TVRC with myself in a driveway. Bill is the consummate sales person
and sold the idea. Special thanks to Rick Oestricher for always
providing a dose of reality to myself in all his diplomacy. Special
thanks to Tony Moseley for always thinking a step ahead and
providing good solid advice. And more kudos to Dave Allard. Dave was
the first treasurer of TVRC and kept the dollars safe. His
accounting is second to none. Kudos to Joe Busby for printing the
first newsletter with a donated 100 dollar bill. We didn't have
money we all had desire. Fortunately that was all we needed. TVRC is
now the oldest active Vintage Motocross Club in the U.S.
So, here we go for the remainder of 2007.First and foremost let me
give a huge thanks to Mike Shelby. Mike brought TVRC back from less
than ten paid members and a under funded treasury to solid ground.
Mike and his Vice President Ken Walden have led the TVRC with great
success. Scott Anderson has kept the cash safe and Walter has kept
the info flowing on the website. Myself as the news editor I have
not done a bunch, I however hope they all know as a gopher I am in
my true element. Occasionally I can pound the keys from my well lit
zoot office and bring on the bs. Mixing bs with some amount of fact
is unfortunately the high light of my day. I was speaking to Mike
this weekend about how he has brought so much success this year to
TVRC. Mike told me he just took TVRC back to its roots. Meaning he
uses the original format of the founders and keeps us autonomous or
separate from other organizations. The President of TVRC must always
have his first loyalty to TVRC before other organizations. However
also must use diplomacy in dealing with other groups. At this Mike
has been a pro. TVRC has gained respect nationwide with sponsors and
riders. Mike perhaps you will allow me to add one more lifetime
member to TVRC. Earlier in the year I asked for a few, now I am
asking for you to join that group. Thanks end of topic closed
discussion, this is the one time you have no say. Over ruled by your
personal gopher. Welcome to the life member ranks.
Damn I hate being serious. I suppose it is time to touch on past and
future events. I suppose our biggest success so far this year has
been the Freestone National where we provided pro pit security, had
a bike display and raced Monday. This was labor day weekend
2007.Thanks to Tony Miller of Freestone.
My personal favorite event was the annual King of the Hill event at
Burleson. That event takes us back to our roots. My guess is we all
started on smokey, peaky, hi revving pea shooters. What a blast,
Scott Anderson is responsible for that idea and Skip Miller for the
awards. Wish I would have thought of it myself. Additionally I enjoy
riding my at3mx there. For those who don't know my at3mx was the
prototype ridden by Pierre Karsmakers in Holland. I uncovered the
bike and exported it back to Texas for myself to ride.
The weekend of November 17th we have our Annual Wyman Priddy
Memorial race followed by a AHRMA Post Vintage National Sunday. Once
again TVRC shows it will work with other organizations. Please
consider attending the Events.
November 9th to 11th we will be displaying our bikes at the Cycle
World Bike show in Fort Worth .More details to follow.
October 20th we have the opportunity to practice on the Freestone
National Track.. TVRC has a working relationship with that venue and
appears headed for green pastures there.
December 16th we head for River Valley for the Jerry Nelson
Memorial. Enough said the guy has a race named for him. Lets not
forget to support River Valley. Also lets support Ben at Montalba.
He has worked well with us.
Ok I am going to wind this up. Thank you all for your participation
in TVRC. This year I have recognized that Motocross for the fun of
it was the perfect phrase for the TVRC. From the beginner to the pro
TVRC has it all. You may all have noticed I never mentioned a winner
of a event in this letter. You see we all win. I noticed this year
Kirk Spencer slowing down just so someone else could lead a event.
Kirk can win anytime he desires yet has fun .Sometimes it can be
seen through the eyes of a beginner better than a experienced racer.
My girlfriend Patty goes to every event. She always comments of how
skilled Kirk is on the track. That brings me to my thought. In the
70s and 80s I was a top ten 250 or 125 intermediate at best. That
meant I practiced the afternoon program with the pros. Kind of scary
, most of the time I felt intimidated. When I looked behind and
heard Kirk coming for a practice lap I never pulled over moved over
or was frightened .The rest of the pros I cant say the same for.
Heck I could end up over a berm. Kirk just smoothly went by. So
today as I take a look at TVRC I recognize we all win. Even my
girlfriend Patty enjoys getting on her xr80 and feels confident
around you guys. That may just say it all. You are all pros in your
own way. Everyone wins from the newest beginner to the seasoned pro.
Thanks for a great 20 years of TVRC and a great 2007."Motocross for
the fun of it" and " I really never know"----until I write
it---------jt

TVRC Newsletter July 2006 Jack Thompson Member Vintage Press
International
Hello and welcome to my July 2006 edition of Vintage
Motocross world -wide renowned newsletter. This month I actually have
some news to report without the common fodder so inherent in my past
letters. First and foremost our next club event will be held at Joe and
Patty Busbys in July. It will be a pool party , and include the
trimmings you all have come to expect out of Tvrc. President Shelby will
be keeping you all informed of the specifics and has already sent out a
mass email to you all. Secondly I do know and recognize the need for
more racetracks to hold our events at , along with making the tracks
more vintage friendly.Mike, Scott and myself recently inspected one new
race track and made our suggestions to the owner. Perhaps this will work
out, and if not we have other venues in the works. Area 51 is also still
being finalized for our special race track in Sanger ,Texas. The track
if it does come through will be perhaps one of the premier vintage
venues in the nation as it will be designed by Tvrc, and its members.
Last weekend Tvrc ended the fall series with a Finale at
North Forty. I was constantly wondering the race track folder in hand
taking notes for this letter. Steve Williams, Mike Shelby, Gary Davis ,
Kenny Bond and myself camped out and cooked out. We had pork chops,
venison and skewered vegetables.Mike woke up in the morning and made us
all coffee. The Saturday campout was excellent and we encourage you all
to attend and bring your wives or girlfriends who may enjoy a activity
of this nature. I myself even have a gal in mind for a future campout ^
, ^so think about bringing yours. Gals if you are reading this I promise
you we will do our best to accommodate your needs. We may even make you
chicken breast and serve you wine , while we eat our steaks and drink
our beer. The point I am trying to make is I know some of you guys feel
bad leaving the lady all weekend so bring her out also and we will show
her a good time too. Plus I will have a special award for the first
woman to compete in any class the remainder of the year.
As we drank our coffee and signed up for the event
Beatles Music was being piped in from the North Forty sound and P.A.
System. The event was sponsored by Skip Miller Sign and Graphics. Thanks
a bunch for the support Skipper. Mike Shelby conducted the pre-race
riders meeting and presented a cheeseburger and fries gift certificate
to Ron Grady who made the trip from Arkansas. Ron had a 1973 Yamaha 250
which had the Gyt Kit installed. I will be soliciting the concession
stand at every event to award this certificate. And best of all it is
strictly up to me the Tvrc Editor to make this selection. I do take
notice of special bikes and look forward to awarding this.
As for the races I am not going to attempt to cover the
results, but just publish items of special note. And what can I say but
Spencer, Spencer , Spencer. In case some of you may not know Kirk
Spencer is perhaps one of if not the fastest Ex Pros to come out of the
Lone Star State. And he is doing it all again 20 years later for us.
Kirk simply makes the Carter Yamaha Maico negotiate the race course in a
eloquence seldom seen. The motorcycle never appears to work hard or rev
very high. Kirk just gets out front and sets there at the same pace, and
never breaks a sweat. This guy is so smooth you would believe he is
trail riding. Yet it is a race pace beyond belief. Rick Jordan is also
this caliber rider and did attend the event but broke his back wheel. I
did interview Rick after the event and all he said was I needed my dad.
Ricks dad apparently tuned his bikes through his professional days.
David Mclaskey was also in attendance and found his Randy Porter
Sponsored Cr having transmission problems. Paul Burnett was also in top
form on his Cr. Great to see both of you guys. Truly enjoy watching the
Elsies.Jeff Kring was in attendance and I interviewed him on the
starting line. Of special note Jeff was offered a Factory Carabela ride
Sunday but turned it down. Carablela down in Saltillo Mexico is making a
comeback and recognizes Jeff likes the Spanish Marques and would love to
have him onboard. Yet Jeff stays Loyal to FX Bulto.Kenny Bond and Gary
Davis who are buddies since they were 5 yrs old put on a epic battle one
moto. Great to see two old buddies dicing .Skip Miller had a Penton
stripe on the front fender of his Honda. Leave it to Skip is all I can
say. I could go on and on and talk all night about the great racing and
friendly racing at North Forty. But I will just say thanks to all who
attended. While we are all racers , we are also friends and I saw no
incidents of unsportsmanlike like conduct. Great Job Guys.
I would like to Take a bit of time in this letter to
point out three excellent members. Skip Miller , Ken Walden and Steve
Williams competed in every event of the Series. Of special note Ken
ended up beating Steve by one measly point for the overall.Congrats Ken.
And Nice riding Steve.
Before I drop the next Trivia question I would like to
say thanks to all for supporting the officers. On the ride home with
Mike we discussed how great the members of Tvrc are. Mike really enjoys
his Presidency and I don't believe anyone so far has even caused him a
issue. It seems all you guys realize we did our real racing many years
ago in our youth and are truly respectful of the officers and fellow
riders. This is what makes Tvrc a special Club. We look forward every
day to improving Tvrc and the fun we all share . The Trivia question
this month is from Steve Williams. Steves question is who was the last
rider to compete on a CCM at the Dallas Supercross. Steve will be
awarding a prize to the first correct answer at the next event. Send
your answers to me and I will forward to Steve. Thanks so much and see
you guys at Smokin Joes party. Sincerely Jack

From The Prez--- Michael Shelby A pre race meeting was held
wed. May 17th at 6 pm at Railhead BBQ. In attendance were Rick
Jordan, Roger Paris, Jim Vaughn, Tony Mosely, Rick Oestricher,
Dave Bell, John Fricke, Jack Thompson, Albert Newman, Judy
Newman, Scott Anderson, Mike Shelby, Ken Walden, Skip Miller and
Bobby Lucas. Also attending was Jim Vaughn's girlfriend. Jim is
not allowed to travel alone to hopefully circumvent any possible
injury. Jim it appears is going to someday be one of those old
guys riding in the passenger seat while his gal navigates and
stops for his rest break. Anyways good things are happening with
the club; we are gaining sponsors and moving towards our fall
series with multiple awards. Our summer party is scheduled for
July 22nd at Joe and Patty Busby's. After hearing about a party
Tony Mosely the margarita meister will be helping us procure a
margarita machine. Rick Jordan filled us in of the progress at
area 51, Rick has long been interested in aliens, and says that
area 51 was once a landing strip for alien aircraft. Upon
hearing this our VP Scott Anderson a ex military pilot commented
he had once chased a alien aircraft to area 51 only to have it
disappear. Anyhow area 51 is shaping up for our future events in
Sanger Texas. Roger Paris who is Jordan's sidekick substantiated
the fact that Jordan is in fact telling the truth and even has
pictures of pieces of old alien aircraft. Ken Walden just said
he can't wait to go as he is also a believer. Rick Oestricher
ever the skeptic wants proof of all this, unfortunately he will
need to ride a race there to see for himself. Rick is currently
building a Benelli Tornado 180 for the Texas Premier Series.
Dave Bell was in awe of the conversation pertaining to Area 51.
Fricke was just shaking his head knowing well that my-self Mike
Shelby had gone way overboard in allowing this area 51 deal to
continue, being a ex President Fricke however understands the
nature of the position. Judy Newman said all funding to unearth
the alien aircraft must go through her. She is well aware of
aliens as she did marry Albert. Sincerely Mike Shelby
From the Editor, Mike presided over a great meeting; it is
appreciated of all who attended as Mike needs all the support he
can get. As a Editor I just print what Shelby tells me. In
addition congrats to Steve Williams for winning the Trivia
prize, I will present it at the next race. The rulebook is
revised and ready for distribution in the future. Kudos to VP
Anderson. My -self I'm kind of like the piano man, except for my
keyboard is attached to a computer. Don’t shoot me I only write
what I hear. And from what I’m hearing Tvrc is primed and ready
for the series. By the way I suggest any who are not members
please join as I feel when we finely do get area 51 online the
whole country will see it as a tourist spot. Each and every paid
Tvrc member will have kiosk rights where they may sell there
collectables. Ok for the trivia, who was the 1st Suzuki rider to
win a AMA 250 national and what race course did he win it at.
Scott Anderson will be selecting and presenting the prize.
Please join Tvrc and participate. We hope to have the best
Vintage Club in the nation. We have our sponsors online and
marked on our webpage. We want you to have fun also. After all
we are Tvrc “Motocross for the Fun of it” JT- oh by the way we
would appreciate members attending our pre race meeting. From
here out I will make it a point to see everyone knows the
meeting sight. We the officers do appreciate the group allowing
us the opportunity to revamp the club, with your participation
all will succeed. However we still have this alien deal to solve
and look to do so at each meeting. It’s not all about Motocross
guys, Join the fun |

TVRC
April 2006 Newsletter |

Greetings ,
fellow Texas Vintage Racing Club Members. TVRC has not had an
active news editor in several years. I was asked by Current TVRC
officers to somehow contribute to the Club. For those who do not
know me, I am an original founder of the Texas Vintage Racing
Club. The club was founded back in July of 1988. In my initial
letter I would like to tell a bit of history of TVRC and the
role it has played in Vintage Motocross both locally and across
America. TVRC was the second vintage motocross club in the
nation as far as I know. The first club was CVRG, or California
Vintage Racing Group, however there may have been other groups
who at times rode vintage, but as an organization these two
groups led the pack. Of the original two only TVRC exist the
same today.
When the
TVRC was formed, fellow co-founder Bill Newkirks wife Cathy said
you guys have opened a can of worms. I did not really take much
stock in her statement thinking we will never make it past the
first race. Well, here we are twenty years later and to simplify
it all in words is that TVRC has grown from its infancy, somehow
made it through the terrible teens, and guess what it is 20
years old now and a young adult. That being said TVRC is primed
and ready to function at the highest level.
The
current regime of TVRC recognizes this stage. The current
officers led TVRC through most of its teen years. You might even
say Bobby ,Skip and Joe raised a huge teenager! Without them, as
well as others, TVRC would not exist today. As such, it is time
for elections, newsletters, treasury reports, along with the
checks and balances that come with those offices.
What I am
saying here fellow TVRC members is to look for all these and
more from TVRC. The election will be held in conjunction with an
awards banquet later in the year.
My job is,
and I will take it seriously, is to disseminate information to
club members. I will also keep the rest of the vintage community
posted so that we may recruit from all venues of the vintage
movement. Not only this but we must all work together with these
other organizations in coordination of events. When you put a
TVRC Jersey on, or a TVRC sticker on your bike please be aware
you are representing this club Do your best to be a model
vintage rider, that in it-self will further the reputation of
TVRC.
Our jobs
as officers are to make sure we interact with other clubs and
keep a good solid treasury so that the club may sustain itself.
The officers hope you all will support the club through paying
your dues. We will make sure you get all the benefits a club
should offer you. When we hold joint events with AHRMA, EVO
Sports, or any other organization we will want our share of the
pie so we may reward our members. I do have one request and that
is I would like more than anything is for all our original
members to once again become active. History is a part of any
organization and I am personally asking for this group to
support the club they founded. At the risk of forgetting a few
allow me the opportunity to write a few names. David Bell, Rick
Oestricher, Tony Mosely, John Fricke,Sherry Fricke(bring
cookies) Dave Allard, Billy Smith,Bill Newkirk, Mike Hance,Tom
Aylett,Roger Dilley,Mark Andrews, and Chester Czakowski.
There are
more but at this moment i only have an original newsletter to go
by to remember all the names. These letters will be posted along
with this letter on the web sight. In the future look for
personal newsletters to me mailed quarterly to each and every
member. The letters will be informative and factual and include
treasury reports from treasurer Judy Newmann.
The future
is bright for TVRC and it is ready, able, and willing to lead
the Vintage movement into the future. Farewell for now “TVRC is
going forward into the past” Jack Thompson 3-15-2006 |
