Hello, my name to those who don't know me is Jack Thompson. In 1988 a good friend of mine Bill Newkirk and I formed the T.V.R.C., along with the help of our wives Laura and Cathy. The only other vintage club for motocross in the nation at that time was AHRMA. The club started with a 3-man race at the Mosier Valley night track primarily designed as a recruiting effort. As word leaked around the state the club grew strong. Perhaps the best slogan ever said was designed by Bill. Motocross for the fun of it .As the years went several individuals realized there was a profit to be made in vintage motocross. While my-self is not against a capitalistic approach to the sport, I also realize in the end that approach will remove Bills mission statement, Motocross for the fun of it. Fellow members what spurs this letter is a recent conversation with a TVRC officer. The officer told me hey Jack attendance is down, we were at a budget shortfall for our awards. Worst of all, I wish someone else would take this job, I am so tired of the headache. The other clubs don't have these problems of budget due to the fact they are in it for the money in a lot of cases. So I'm asking you guys don't complain and voluntarily pay your dues so that the club may sustain it-self. Be loyal to your club Don't support other profit based clubs who Don't even hold elections. They dictate the final outcome of the vintage movement in Texas with there dollars. Be active take a stand for your club and it will be here for you many years. But most of all take the time to slap an officer on the back, tell him thanks. More than likely that officer you just told thanks worked all week fielded a phone call or two that someone was complaining over a trivial issue. Hey he may have even taken a dollar out of his pocket to see you got that 5th place award when there were only 5 riders in the class. Also please support Burleson motocross track, stop by and see Chester when he is on that tractor grooming the track so it will be safe. Without Chester we would not have a vintage club, he paid us 5 dollars a rider when we started out to defray expenses to us. Hey did you guys know Chester and I rode together when the bikes you are riding in vintage now were new. Ok well enough said I suppose but please support these individuals, they do this cause they love it. And I promise you guys, I love it too. Please keep it alive and remember Motocross for the Fun of It. That Bill was sharp, did you know Bill was a very good rider. He could have been a pro had he wanted, I remember in the 80s, he would holeshot come in a lap later and say dang I'm having a good time give me a beer. He did not care about winning -only the fun. Took me many years to realize why he did that, however that may just be the reason was here today. When the money is dried up the others will be gone. Just like the Hodaka motorcycle-a true fun machine. Hey I just had an idea could we start a Hodaka 100 class I will be building one if we can. But only chrome tankers, no orange ones. Bet you one thing we will be the only club in the nation with that class. They are cheap, easy to work on, parts easy to find and fun. Best of all however is that fuel tank shines in the sunlight.
