Notes from the President

Sept 25, 2007
Greetings TVRC members and all Texas motocross fans,

The great state of Texas is back in the history books as the premiere location for AMA National MX. Thanks to all who supported this event. Mark your calendars for next year Labor Day weekend. The Texas Vintage Racing Club will be there and the second Texas Vintage National promises to be bigger and better.

The TVRC members sponsored a fantastic Vintage Bike Display with over 33 dirt bikes ranging from 1967 to the early 1980's. Thanks to all who contributed with special recognition to the collection of Joe Edwards. A very special thank you and recognition to club VP Ken Walden who worked very long and hard to coordinate and spear head the Vintage Bike Display.  Thanks to club sponsors  Tony Moseley and Diamond Don Rainey for manning the display with their RV's, keeping an eye on the bikes,  and to Don for feeding us. The show of Vintage bikes drew much attention with the crowds.

TVRC members donated their time and energy to provide security in the AMA Pro pits. It was hot, humid, and alot of fun. We  witnessed  "Da Man" Roger DeCoster join the club and autograph the gas tank of Scott Anderson's TM 400 Suzuki,,,COOL!!  Special thanks to the guys that worked with me in the pits: Mike Stovall, Bill Davis, Jack Thompson, Rick Hiedman, Walt Parks, Scott Smiley, Joe Edwards, Joe Busby, Ken Walden. These members made it possible for us to be invited back next year. What more can I say.

The race was fantastic with Villipoto dominating the lites class and Andrew Short looking great until a small mishap in the second moto knocked him back a  position. Grant Langston came away with the over all win. Kawasaki favorite Tim Ferry worked his way up after mid pack starts to finish third. Mike Alessi on the only KTM looked very consist ant in fourth place. Only 15 points separate the leaders going into the final round. This makes the Texas race a very important race as the next to last of the series. Next year will be bigger and better. It's just beginning. This is TEXAS and we do things BIG around here!
We cannot thank Tony Miller enough for bringing the pro's back home and to his ever present hard working right hand man Tom Shields.

We ended the weekend with the first annual Texas Vintage National on Monday Labor Day.  Jack Rhodes was the featured announcer.  The race was a success with 73 entries.  Not bad for a first. Riders came to participate from south Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and beyond. Many for the first time to a TVRC event. Thanks to all who participated, we hope you enjoyed our club and plan on coming back. A super fast guy  from Louisiana named Mac Edmonston took 3 of 3 wins for the triple crown of the day  Mac had  a great battle with local Jay Novero in  GP class. Kirk Spencer ran away with the Vintage A class. Jeff Kring won the 50+ class on his 1974 250cc Bultaco. Carl Poindexter was real fast on a Yamaha borrowed from Jimmy Ewing due to his bikes getting stolen at Mid-Ohio.  Next year will be well over 100 entries. The Texas Vintage Racing Club is honored to host the event and has been invited back. This event will remain a "Texas" event with no membership in anything required to participate. Event sponsor Holeshot magazine provided several copies of the book "Berm" The Texas Motocross Chronicles which some very luck riders received in a random drawing. Thanks to all the TVRC sponsors for their support: Vintage Iron, Kawasaki, , Circle F Pipe, Holeshot magazine, VMX magazine, Lake Country Cycles, Montalba MX, Rivervalley MX, NorthForty MX, Burleson MX,  Please remember these sponsors and do business with them   Next year you can bet we will be there in record numbers along with you and all our friends.

This could not have happened with out some very dedicated club members who helped run the event. Jack Thompson, original club founder stood out in the sun all day at finish line flag, Ken Walden gave up his race entry to keep score in the tower, Ben Martin of Montalba MX  ran the start gate.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

This one weekend of the year, I hope we as Vintage motocross riders and fans, can come together from all parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana to participate in this sport we love for the camaraderie, food, drink, and of course racing. Thanks again for everything. It is my pleasure to serve you  in this capacity as the president of the oldest active vintage motocross club in America, the   Texas Vintage Racing Club.

as always,        Mike    TVRC    "Going Forward Into The Past"

sincerely,   Michael  Shelby

April 9, 2007
Greetings to All Fellow Motocross and Dirt Bike Junkies,

Texas Vintage Racing Club is alive and well thanks to your support and the support of our sponsors Vintage Iron,  Kawasaki, VMX Magazine, Circle F Pipe, Two Wheel World, VMXTV, Lake Country Cycles, and announcing  Holeshot Magazine as new sponsor and Freestone MX as new track sponsor. Additionally,  club member Chris Barton is supporting the GP Small bore  race  with Bob Hanna signed T-Shirts and Mike Stovall has offered a full frame powder coat to be raffled off as a fundraiser.   WOW!   We are blessed.

I wanted to bring all up to speed with some recent news and general pit talk.
Montalba MX has removed some of the very deep sand and has mixed in approx. 60 tons of clay along with adding an S turn in the long downhill straight with a couple new vintage friendly jumps. Track Owner Ben Martin is working hard to try and please us and hopes you will come see on April 15th. Overnight camping is allowed free.

Burleson MX has opened the gate for us on April 29th for a full schedule with the G P Small Bore Challenge as the main event. We start early and end by 1pm for another local cycle group to enjoy a BBQ and play day. This will be a lot of fun. Bring the grill and plan to hang around.

AMA Outdoor National MX is coming to Texas on Labor Day weekend and track Owner Tony Miller is sponsoring a Texas Vintage National Championship on Monday September 3rd. Tony is a Texan and has invited TVRC to be a part of this event. All TVRC sponsors are ON BOARD for this event. The Texas Vintage Racing Club will be there and we hope that ALL Texas riders come to participate and defend home turf against riders from across the U. S.   Mark your calendar for this one and don't let anybody talk you out of it!

The first annual Jim Pomeroy memorial and Bike Week at Northforty Cycle Park was a great success. Owners David and Beverly Henry put together a full schedule with VDTRA flat track, super TT on a short smooth portion of the MX track, TVRC vintage and post vintage MX, along with N-40 modern support MX, a swap meet and bike show. David added a very nice metal building with his/hers restrooms and showers. It was so nice to take a HOT shower after the race. The Henry's offered a "Triple Crown" award to the rider with the best score in flat track, super TT, and MX. TVRC member Kirk Spencer walked away with a new pit bike valued at $600 !!!  Ronnie Snyder supplied the crowds favorite bike show entry with his Jim Pomeroy Bultaco's. Over 20 TVRC members and friends enjoyed lots of food and camaraderie around the Gary Davis fire pit on Saturday night. The pit racing was huge!  TVRC had 60 entries in  MX.  Thanks to all who participated and made this a successful event. Lets do it again next year during spring break.

Diamond Dons Riverport national was as always a fantastic time. The big story was the weather and a huge downpour Friday night into Saturday morning. The rain stopped and the race was on. The mud was deep and the ground soaked. Motocrossers are tough guys. The race of the day was between World Champs Danny Laport, Brad Lackey, and Arkansas Flash Rick Jordan.  Lackey dropped it in a turn leaving it up to Laport to fend off Jordan.  After banging handlebars down the straight away, Laport passed Jordan in a sharp left turn and never looked back. Ron Pomeroy came with the help of TVRC's Scott Anderson with yours truly corresponding with Da Prez- Francene Rainey for airfare to get Ron there and be able to visit with his sister from Houston. Vintage Irons Rick Doughty, TVRC's title sponsor made the event and raced post vintage on a beautiful Honda. Thanks a lot Rick for bringing the rain with you! Rick is beginning to wonder if it ever stops raining in Texas.  Sunday was beautiful and the track was simply AWESOME! Laport won again with Jordan a close second followed by Busby,  Jammin Joe Busby pulled off the upset in 125cc expert beating a 21 year old fast kid from Oklahoma. Way to go Joe!  TVRC is very proud of these 50+ experts Jordan and Busby that ride at world class speeds.  TVRC member Gary Davis hosted two parties very graciously. Thank you Gary for putting so much time, energy, and money for the benefit if all. Sponsor VMX magazine authorized me to give away two subscriptions for this event. Two members names that attended will be pulled from a hat in a random drawing. Membership has its rewards!  Diamond pulled of a great event in very trying circumstances. TVRC is very proud to have Don and Francene Rainey as members.  Thanks for your support.

Shand at Holeshot magazine is putting together a hard cover book about the history of Texas motocross. We at TVRC are providing some history pieces and photos and hope to get in a couple pages of the proposed 120 page book. The book is scheduled to be for sale at the AMA outdoor national.

Texas AMA national with a  Vintage national,  AHRMA Post Vintage national with the 10th Wyman Priddy memorial,   G P Small Bore Challenge,  History of Texas motocross,  did I mention the King Of The Hill Vintage Small Bore race or the Jerry Nelson Four Stroke Classic?  Two summer parties. The Aussies are coming, yes, racers from Australia will join us this summer for a get together.
This is some exciting stuff. Club membership is growing at every event. Sponsors are coming on board. Remember to support our sponsors with your purchases. Tell them your from Texas.
Remember this is a membership driven club and every dollar generated and sponsors provisions go back to you, the member in some way form or fashion. So if you haven't paid the $40 to be a member,  do so today and be a part of the most exciting year in Texas motocross in a long time.

When in doubt, GAS IT !          Michael   TVRC   "Going Forward Into The Past"

March 1, 2007

To all Texas Vintage Riders,

I have received confirmation that AHRMA is planning on a  SECOND  national this year in Texas at North Forty Cycle park,  Sherman Texas,  in November. The exact date will be determined this week when Regional Coordinator Bobby Lucas discusses it with AHRMA west off road coordinator Al Wenzel.   I understand that this will be a  Post Vintage only event.  Track Owner David Henry has Al's O K to run  VDTRA flat track on the Saturday night of the event.  If possible,  TVRC will run our  Vintage, Decade, along with N-40 modern support on Saturday. We may be able to combine it with our 10th annual Wyman Priddy event.

As you may know, the TVRC and N-40 are having the first annual Jim Pomeroy memorial on March 18th. N-40 is calling it Bike Week. There will be a Swapmeet, Vintage Bike Show, Mini Bike TT, VDTRA Flat track, Super TT, and modern support along with the TVRC classes. The top finish in knobby tire flat track, Super TT, and MX  gets decked out head to toe in new race gear. Expect the national to be more of the same.

The reason I am sending this out now is to let you know that if you want to join AHRMA and the AMA, you could participate in TWO events this year here in Texas.  So, there is more reason to sign up now and be able to participate at Diamond Dons event on March 30th-April 1st.   Pre entry deadline for Dons is real soon, less than 3 weeks. So, now is the time to act to get in 2 Texas Nationals. More bang for your buck so to speak.

Hope to see you at the races,  as always,  Mike,  TVRC  "Going Forward Into The Past"

sincerely,   Michael  Shelby

December 30, 2006

Greetings and Glad Times,

TVRC closes out the 2006 season with a bang and explodes into the 2007 year with more of the same good times, Vintage, and Post Vintage Motocross. Year 2007 promises to bring more events, more sponsors, and more fun.

The Texas Vintage Racing Club extends a BIG thank you to our 2006 sponsors.

Title Sponsor Vintage Iron and Rick Doughty, Circle F Pipe and Kevin Felle, Kawasaki Motor Corp and Tony Moseley, VMX magazine, Ken Smith and Alistair Johnson, Two Wheel World and Mike Schindler. Thank You for your support and sponsorship of the TVRC. Your goods and services enriched the TVRC members and the Texas vintage racing scene.

The Vintage Iron fall series was a blast with 275 entries. Thanks to our race tracks owners and their contributions to this club and it’s members. David Henry at North Forty Cycle Park, David Lux at Rivervalley MX, Chester at Burleson MX, and Don and Francene Rainey at Diamond Dons.

The 9th annual Wyman Priddy memorial at North 40 was an initial drenching The TVRC faithful and Rick Doughty showed up for some Saturday night knobby tire TT on the improved flat track/TT course. Sunday was priceless. A bunch of guys signed up to race just to watch as the sky grew dark and the bottom fell out. Not wanting to end the day, a dozen or so vintage junkies hung out under tarps, eating venison chili and drinking cold beer. The pit racing was HUGE! Rick left us with a smile as he spun doughnuts in his rental car thru the pits on his way out. The make up race was a success with the reigning King of the Hill small bore champ returning only to falter to a duel between past TVRC president John Fricke and the Arkansas Flash Rick Jordan. Remah Priddy graced us with her presence and handed out the awards. Wyman looked down from above and smiled.

We opened up a new practice track with it’s first race at Rivervalley Mx, Boyd TX. This track has great spectator viewing and is a blast to ride on the red clay dirt. The first annual “Jerry Neilson” four stroke classic produced over forty entries with six riders on 1960’s era vintage four strokes. VMXTV.com was present to video the race

.

Burleson MX was the site for the annual Gran Prix event. One thirty minute moto tested both man and machine with over twenty continuous laps of racing. Jeff Kring on his Bultaco challenged Rick Jordan on a CZ waiting for a slip that never happened. Lloyd Morgan twisted off his throttle cable at the carburetor. We had to remind Lloyd that his Suzuki did not go any faster than WIDE-OPEN! For this, he got the “dead ass last award”, a cute little bucking jack ass titled D. A. L.

The North-South shootout at Diamond Dons [ DD ] had over 50 TVRC entries. The club showed up in force to support DD and claim the non-national vintage title with co TVRC founder Joe Busby taking top honors. Mike Hance entertained us around the camp fire and Kirk Spencer shocked us making a double pass flying over the levee on his Maico.

We closed out the year with our annual club meeting and awards banquet. Yours truly was re-elected president, Ken Walden is the V.P., Scott Anderson is now the treasurer, and Jack Thompson is the newsletter editor. Every member that attended left with more awards and prizes than the cost of their membership thanks to our sponsors. All received club jerseys. Three Sportsman Of The Year awards went out to Ken Walden, Skip Miller, and Steve Williams. Each received a special wood plaque and a years subscription to VMX magazine along with web master Walter Parks for his dedication and help. Two pipes went out compliments of Circle F Pipe. KMC donated three rear MX tires and several cases of productss. Vintage Iron and Two Wheel World provided shirts, caps, racing pants, gloves, tie downs, handle bar grips, and lots more.  The WW II Rifle drawing for injured Rough Rider Tommy Montgomery was won by Rick Jordan in a random drawing. We sent $910 to Tommy. Thanks to all of those who paid $10 per ticket and those that simply made a donation. Special recognition goes to the 06 club officers. Judy Newman kept the money in a safe place and made payments as needed. Scott Anderson was in-valuable to me as a VP. Scott kept up with the series scores and race day totals in addition to helping bring TVRC back to its foundation and format. Scott is responsible for thinking up the Jerry Nelson four stroke classic. Jack Thompson was instrumental in helping shake up the TVRC faithful and restoring the “honorary life time members list” . Look forward to seeing a real paper newsletter from Jack in 07. The club is back on sound financial ground. We had a 500% increase in funds thanks to our members, riders and track owners support. Paid memberships experienced a 700% increase.

Year 2007 is looking to be very exciting. I anticipate paid membership to exceed 100 members as we go forward into the past of vintage motocross. We are blessed with the continuation of our current sponsors and four solid race tracks to compete on.

February 18th we will open a new track called MontalbaMX near Palestine Tx. This track is vintage friendly and has great spectator viewing. The track is deep sand and very fast. A select group took a run on it and we are PUMPED! about this track and it’s location two hours from Fort worth, and one hour from Conroe. Hopefully, we can meet there with the south Texas riders for some fun competitive racing. We are thinking of keeping the north-south shootout alive there as DD is not planning on doing that event any longer.

March 17th and 18th is the first annual “Jim Pomeroy” memorial at North Forty. Track owner and member David Henry is planning on a “Bike Week” with a bike show, live band, BBQ, VDTRA flat track and TT on Saturday and our Jim Pomeroy memorial on Sunday. We will remember our comrade and fellow ’Rough Rider’ Jim and try to get his brother Ron down for the event.

Then to the AHRMA national at Diamond Dons. A three day event. The TVRC will show up in our team jerseys a ROCK the east Texas soil with fast riders and great fun. We will coordinate with member Gary Davis and his “Balls To The Wall” race team for a huge cook-out. Plan on bringing the spouse for this one.

The TVRC will be going to the ISDT this year in Tulsa OK. and the AMA Texas outdoor national September 1st For a little variety, we will do a cross country race this year at N Forty for our many interested members. The 2007 schedule dates are laid out. Stay tuned to the website for dates and tracks.

06 was a blast, 07 promises more of the same. I appreciate each and every one of you guys. Hope to see you soon at the race track. Thanks for allowing me to be the president of the oldest active vintage motocross racing club in America. I am humbled by your support and look forward to serving you this next year. And remember…..when in doubt

GAS IT!!,,,,Michael,,,,,,,TVRC,,,,,,,,,”Going Forward Into The Past”

November 17, 2006

Hello to all my fellow motocross brothers and sisters. I just thought I would drop you a line to say that in case you were not able to make the race at Diamond Dons, you missed a great event. Where else can you be served all the BBQ and beer you can stomach, while being on private property, with loud motocross machines free to roam the woods, under a beautiful Texas sky? Nowhere but Diamond Dons! Hey, like we say around here,"It ain't braggin if its fact"!  No other promoter does it better than the double D, Diamond Don. The Prez. of Diamond Don Racing, Francine Rainey, worked overtime to put together the regional format combined with TVRC classes and a North-South scoring system to accommodate all types of Vintage, Post Vintage, Modern support, and Mini bike classes to make this 2nd annual event a HUGE success. There were over 104 entries. The awards were the classic Diamond Don red, white and blue wood shaped Texas with a straight railroad nail for first and bent nail on the second and third place plaques.  Behind the scenes, TVRC Vice Pres. Scott Anderson and yours truly lent our support and help when needed.  I am proud to announce new TVRC member  Potts Thomas. Everybody should mark their calendars for the National there next spring and the North-South shootout next fall. Diamond has many ol motocross giants scheduled to attend like: Brad Lackey,Danny Laport, Tony Fox, Tommy Croft, to name a few for a three day event with two days of racing. Make your reservation at one of many bed and breakfast inns and bring the whole family. The North prevailed in the shootout with some really fast riders and sheer numbers. Thanks to all the TVRC members that attended. While the TVRC was represented with  speed from the " Arkansas Flash"  Rick Jordan, and the "Jammer" Jammin Joe Busby, one could not help but  notice Team Cramp speedsters Mike Hance and a guy known as "doughbaby" aka Kirk Spencer who may have well set the fastest lap times. The overall award for the North-South Shoot-out went to Jammin Joe Busby. Congratulations Joe! Next year we will work on having a special moto with select riders from both teams to compete head-on  for the championship. Also, from S. Carolina, Bob Spies was lighting fast and duked it out with Rick Jordan, colliding at the last turn with Bob getting a test of the Jefferson soil. Bob Spies is a super person and the event was "bigger than Texas" with his presence and others from around the planet like Richie Vallandingham from Missouri ,  reigning "King of the Hill" champ Ed Simon and his bunch out of Oklahoma, and many others from Louisiana, Arkansas, and I thought I heard someone came as far as  California. Thank You Don and Francine for a fantastic event and your support of the TVRC, and Thanks to all who attended with a special Thank You to Mike Hance for his support of the TVRC and Vintage motocross in Texas.   So, moving forward, we have the re-scheduled Wyman Priddy Memorial coming up this next SATURDAY after Thanksgiving. To some, the date works out great, to others, it doesn't work at all. Be there if you can because it will be a fun time with the "King of the Hill' small bore championship on line with guys breaking out the 125cc, 175cc, and 200cc Vintage machines. It will surely be a showdown with the reigning champ Simon going against Jordan, Busby, Lucas, and others including myself [if that !!?><!?^*! Bultaco will run]. Then we have the last race of the  the Vintage Iron series on December 10th at River Valley MX near Boyd Tx. Whatever you do, please plan on attending the year end awards banquet to vote on club officers, club issues and more. There is quite a heap of goodies to be given away from our sponsors Vintage Iron, Circle F Pipe, VMX magazine, Kawasaki Motor Corp. and our newest sponsor Two Wheel World on top of the series awards. Special Thanks to our sponsors. Remember to call them with your cycle needs .This  will be a " Christmas" themed party with gift giving also. Stay tuned, the location and agenda will be posted soon and I will be making contact with all members prior to the banquet.  As always, when in doubt,,,,,,GAS  IT !!  My sincere wishes to all for a pleasant Thanksgiving holiday. We have alot to be thankful for.

VINTAGE IRON

October 2, 2006

Greetings to all of my fellow adrenaline junkies,,,aka,,"Motocross Riders",,Dirt Bike addicts,, "crazy guys",,etc. I have always said that anyone who likes to line up with a bunch of "Speed O Holics" and drop the clutch at 10,000 rpms has got to be a little "off" somewhere. Welcome to Texas style Vintage Motocross where the best and fastest 40, 50, and 60 year old experts roam the landscape in search of the next starting gate and that perfect "holeshot". I continue to be impressed and humbled with the group of individuals in this sport. There are not only some very, very, fast TVRC riders, but also some very good people. As we say it around here, "just good people". Put that together with our sponsors support from Vintage Iron, Circle F pipe, Kawasaki Motor Corp, Vmx magazine together with the favorite common interest and what you get is the best Vintage and Post Vintage racing events on the planet. The Texas Vintage Racing Club has started our 2006 fall "Vintage Iron" racing series with a great turn-out at River Valley MX., Boyd TX. Track owner David Lux has developed a superb track in a beautiful setting that has great spectator viewing. David allowed the TVRC to be the first race at the track that has been open only six months and had the rich sandy loam soil primed to perfection. David and crew are continually watering and grooming the track and making improvements. A big Thank You to David Lux and wife Liz. In Vintage Open Expert it was brutal between "Doughboy" Kirk Spencer and "Arkansas Flash" Rick Jordan with Spencer getting the win on his 74 1/2 Maico and Rick, making one last attempt to get around, managed to crash his CZ into the finish line flagman and scorekeepers table. Nobody was injured, unless you call a shirt full of dirt an injury. Thanks Rick for introducing my fiancee Eileen {scorekeeper} to Vintage Motocross dirt. We now call Rick the Arkansas "Crash".... JUST KIDDING ! we all got a big laugh from it. Bobby Lucas " KTM Wonder" rode solid for third on his Penton. In Decade Expert classs, we enjoyed high flying Trevor Parks doing some doubles and manageing to stay ahead of "Jammin Joe" Busby. Joe is always consistantly very fast. Yours truly had the pleasure of riding on Busby's 1973 400 Maico and had a great time. Thank You for the ride Joe. Having a great time, that is whats important. We ride "for the fun of it". It is important to ride, to compete, to finish and not get hurt. But the most important thing is that we all have a fun time chasing our passion for riding and racing old dirt bikes, getting together for some comradrie, food and drink. We have a lot on the plate so to speak in this series. Next event is of course, the 9th annual Wyman Priddy Memorial, an Ahrma South Central "Rough Rider" regional race and TVRC "King Of The Hill" smallbore championship. This year is also a tribute to fallen comrad Jim Pomeroy. Regional Coordinator Bobby Lucas Track owner David Henry [honorary lifetime tvrc member] has some cool Wyman-Pomeroy award plaques in the works and the TT course set up for Saturday night with a couple added turns and more lighting along with pit bike racing, two live bands, and grilled burgers. Members get half price gate entry on Saturday. Title sponsor Vintage Iron Rick Doughty plans to attend and compete. The TVRC is having the first "Dirt Bike Drag For Cash" fun-d raiser, $10 entry with 50% payback to the winner on Saturday around 4pm. David, a long time supporter of the TVRC, has offered to sponsor the club for the "Jim Pomeroy Memorial" event in the spring of 2007. A well planned Vintage event will be put together for this first race in memory of our fellow "Rough Rider" and honorary lifetime member Jim Pomeroy. And then there is Gran Prix racing with one 30 minute moto at favorite Burleson MX. Track owner Chester has agreed to allow the TVRC to host this event on Oct. 29th. Again, racing, safety, food, drink, and FUN will be on tap. Tired ? Were just getting started. Then we go to "Diamond Dons" in Jefferson Tx. August 3, 2006

Greetings to all TVRC members, Texas motocross brothers, friends and sponsors. I just returned from the AHRMA Mid-Ohio event and all I can say is WOW, this is THE event to go to in vintage motorcycles. Over 50,000 enthusiast attend. Plan to go next year to compete with the nations best vintage and post vintage motocross riders and enjoy the comradrie in the motocross community. TVRC member Gary Davis provided the transportation and RV for myself, Kenny Bond and Tod Gardner. We arrived on Thursday to our saved spot next to Don "Diamond Don"and Francine Rainey, Chris "Chili Pepper"Richardson,Brit Lambert, Ed Shade, Roger Paris,Mike Haynes, Brooks Blair, and Michael Snoddy. The "Texas Camp" with flags flying was in place. 50 Lbs of boiled shrimp, tons of fried catfish, smoked ribs, sausages, chickens, pheasants, and lots more were consumed in two nights of feast "Texas Style". Our camp was the friendly gathering spot for many including: Jim Pomeroy and his long time friend Gordy Ochs, David Boydston, Brad Lackey, Alex and Carol Munoz, Dave Lambreth, "Chicago" Jerry, Tommy Croft, Tom Doherty, Steve Marpes, Rhett Smith, Dave Bylond, Richie Vallandingham, Chris Mincey, Rick Smits, Biengt "The Flying Finn" Luotonen, Bruce Rounsville, Tim Hamilton, Michael Candreia, John Gott, Seige, Ken and Alistair from VMX magazine, and the guys from Ohlins Shocks, Speed and Sport,  MOVMX, and many more. TVRC and Texas riders scored well with Gary Davis bringing home the wood for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. Kenny Bond scored two 1st, and a 3rd. Ed Shade brought home  1st place wood ."Diamond" Don got a 3rd in his class. Jim Pomeroy beat out David Boydston for a 1st.  "Chili Pepper" Richardson got a 3rd, and Tod Gardner, Britt Lambert, Michael Snoddy, and Brooks Blair [on a Ducati]  all gave it a good effort and finished. There were 495 Vintage entries on Saturday and about 370 post-vintage entries on sunday. The track was well prepared and the humidity kept the soil moist untill Sunday when the track got dry and dusty.Gary Davis was the "hole shot" king on saturday but got tangled up on Sunday in the first turn and bit the dirt. "Diamond Don" had a close call going into turn one but managed to stay upright. David Boydston got the holeshot both motos Saturday on the Gary Davis Bultaco, beating out Jim Pomeroy who eventually got around him for the win. It was a great time for all with no injuries."Bad" Brad Lackey passed out free event T-shirts Sunday,,thanks Brad. I hope the TVRC can get together for next year and do a "Texas Sweep". I know our guys are as fast or faster than the rest of the nation. Thanks to Gary Davis, Don Rainey, Chicago Jerry, and Richie Vallandingham for putting together the friendly atmosphere for all to enjoy.       Michael Shelby,,TVRC,,"Going Forward Into The Past"

Hello Fellow Texan Motocross Brothers,,,,I wanted to get your input for a central Texas race event for all to meet and race together this fall.  The Tvrc has made contact with the Waco Eagles track owner for a fall race date. This was done as a result of communications with Hance and others as a way for all to meet in a central location. I understand that Waco is Vintage friendly and can accommodate modern also. We have a November 26th date that we are moving from Village Creek to Waco for this event. That is two weeks after we are meeting at Diamond Dons for the north-south shootout,, so, we could have a double run so to speak. I know that Hump has a schedule also and I do understand if the dates conflict, but as you know, the TVRC classes stop at the Decade class [1996] so there is a different set of classes.  I am trying to bring us all together as we should be to have some fun competition. What do you say?? I am asking for your input before I confirm a date with Waco.     Thanks to all           Michael Shelby,,,,TVRC,,,,"Going Forward, Into The Past"
