South Central Regional Report Rough Riders
The North Forty Event was as good as Vintage Racing can get! Motocross
and Flat Track on the same day at a regional event! David Henry’s efforts
paid off. He and his staff have truly given our region a standard for other
to achieve! This mile and a half motocross track and quarter mile flat track
are wonderful. Joe Busby won the over all on the 501 Maico with Bob Lucas
finishing second over all, and 1st 250 Exp. Carl Keller would loop out at
the start and still finish 2nd 250 & 1st over all 250 experts when a flat
tire retired Bob during the second moto. Ken Walden rode really fast and
would battle with Scott Smiley and Mike Snoddy for the 250 GP honors; this
was a really great race to watch. Scott Anderson and Chris Richardson along
with Carl Keller put on a great historic expert race with Richardson taking
the win on the last lap. Thank you David Henry from all of us – everyone
came to the Wyman Priddy Event! This promises to be a great event. Bring
your flat trackers along. Check the TVRC .org web for details.
Texas Motor Speedway! A 1st for a regional event happened September 18th
& 19th – We put on a motocross event at TMS. Jim Pomeroy flew in on Thursday
(Thank you, Mark Brown) and Jim directed the construction of the motocross
track. Mike Shelby, Mike Stovall, Mark Brown, Skip Miller, Jay Navaro and
Bobby Lucas worked for two days to build a track in the infield of this
giant NASCAR track. During our races on Saturday and Sunday, NASCAR schools
were run, 10 cars raced around the track while vintage bikes raced around MX
track, F14 Tomcats did fly-over and hundreds of fans lined the fences to see
Vintage MX… this was truly a cool event. The contacts have been made and a
very good impression on the promoters was set in their minds…we will be
back. Thanks to DFW Honda, Steve Moss, our primary sponsor, Thunderbird
Promotions, who paid us to put on the event, they also furnished trophies,
Tony Mosley from Kawasaki for banner support, Ronnie Snyder for your support
of Bultacos for Jim Pomeroy, and thank you Jim Pomeroy for your never ending
strength and support. The racing was very close both days – the awards were
given in the NASCAR Victory Lane. We will have more information coming on
the results. Special thanks to two guys: Mike Shelby for letting us uses his
toy box as headquarters and to Mark Brown for your American Airlines
support! See all of you at the Wyman Priddy Event or Moberly.. Hopefully
both! Remember to turn on the gas…. See ya @ the starting line! Bobby Lucas
I would like to thank all who made our race at T.M.S. a success. It
turned out to be a lot of hard work building a track from a pile [200 yards]
of dirt on a gravel parking area. We truly made "something out of nothing"
and boy was it hot! We, as a club, overcame several obstacles in our quest to
make this happen. Special thanks to those who took time off work and came
out after work to work some more.....Mike Stovall, Mark Brown ,Jay Navaro,
Skip Miller, Bobby Lucas, and Jim Pomeroy. Yes, we even put Jim to work. It
was a lot of fun and hopefully we can do it again next year. We made Vintage
Motocross history as the first [and maybe ever] motocross race inside
T.M.S......motocross bikes, sport bikes and Harleys all together in one
place?..................WAY COOL DUDE !!!!!!!.........................

September 24 2004
Today is a sad day for T.V.R.C as we have lost a long time supporter of
the sport; Mr. Busby [Joe Busby's father]. Joe tells us that he checked his
dad into the hospital last weekend only to bring him home so he could pass
in the comfort of his own home.Mr. Busby passed away this morning, Friday
Sept. 24,2004 after a brief battle with cancer. Joe was very close to his
dad. Our hearts and prayers go out to Joe and Patty Busby in this time of
grief. Joe will honer his dads wishes to not have a funeral but rather
creamation with his ashes to be spread out over Lake Whitney.
We hear that
Mosier Valley MX Park in Arlington, Texas, has been sold to the City of
Arlington and is scheduled to be closed on November 30, 2004. Apparently,
The Dallas-Ft. Worth area riders are helpless in this, so no letter
campaign. The track owner, Jerry Surber, after 30+ years in MX has
decided to retire from the sport and sold the track to the City of Arlington
for an undisclosed sum, according to Racer X reader Johnny T.
Luttrull. Any time a track dies, we all die a little, don’t we?
Joe Busby Senior Died today September 24 2004at 6:00A.M. at his
retirement home in Whitney, Texas from bone cancer diagnosed this summer.
Joe was 78 years old and was the favorite father figure of all the TVRC
racers. What we do may not even exist if fathers like Joe didn't take there
son racing that new sport called Motocross in the 60's and 70's and spawn
racers like Jammin' Joe #3. Until the last season Joe came to most DFW races
and now we know why he hasn't been attending as much. He will always be
missed.
