First things first…. Thanks to everyone who attended the Jefferson National. Dan Rainey & Francine Dupree … a very special thank you and well done! Vintage Racing is getting better & better! The South Central Fall Schedule has finally been confirmed, with special events and honored guests. There is plenty to look forward to and great tracks to ride. The Wyman Priddy, Texas Vintage Racing Club 15th Anniversary event will be held in November at the North Forty in Sherman, Texas. David Henry and many TVRC members have worked days and even weeks to prepare for this event. The track is now one and a half miles long, all natural terrain, and very vintage. This is a great track! Special guests will be World Champion, Brad Lackey,GP winner, Jim Pomeroy and Ron Pomeroy, the terror of the Trans Ams – what a bunch! *** Just a side note: we will be celebrating Jim Pomeroy’s birthday, so don’t miss the cake and ice cream! A special award will be given for the small bore class – this is to be an annual race… so bring out the 125’s , and claim the “King of the Hill” trophy. Good news for all down south members…. the owners at Rio Bravo want us to run TVRC / AHRMA regionals there. We also have plans for a GP at 2x AHRMA Champion, Mike Hance’s ranch, north of Houston. The flat track issues still need some work, but the North Forty is going to build a 3/8 mile track soon! Bring your flat trackers to the anniversary event. Well check the schedule…see what you can do can do attending as many as you can.

Thanks to Many!!

Mid Ohio 2003 didn’t turn out the way I had planned… with an injury during Sunday’s practice (punctured lung), I became a patient at the Mansfield Medical Center. My stay lasted 9 days. I wanted to thank those who called and visited the hospital. Many called every day, some visited twice. Alan Buehner, president of POG, and his wife Rosemary visited met. Britt and Mary Kay Lambert brought me my clothes, and took care of my bikes & took them back to Texas. Rough Riders called often. Larry Shope, Scott Anderson, Randy Brown, Scott Smiley, and, of course, my friend Jim Pomeroy called everyday. Thanks to all others in the POG… you know who you are. I was under the pain killers when many of you called…something we can now laugh about. Many people asked me if I am going to quit racing… definitely not! This is who I am! Thanks again to all who helped, and to my wife…. thanks for putting up with all the trouble I’ve caused. Bobby Lucas 50x

The Texas Vintage Racing Club and private member donations contributed substationaly to the trophy fund to proudly support the institution of vintage racing and vintage racing personalities.

The "First American"
finally gets his GP trophy

30+  years after Jim Pomeroy became the first American to win a world championship moto-cross GP, (the 1973 250cc Spanish Moto-cross GP), he finally received a first place trophy for his historic win. History will show that Maico's Hans Maisch was awarded the 1st overall trophy after the race. But the promoters were unaware that the rules for determining the overall winner had been changed by FIM. Jim Pomeroy was the actual winner, but by the time the promoters realized their mistake, Hans Maisch and the first place trophy were long gone. Despite efforts to retrieve the trophy, Hans Maisch never gave it back.

On August 10, 2003 at the AHRMA vintage national trials & moto-cross at Chehalis Washington, (The 6th Annual Chehalis Classic), Jim Pomeroy was presented with a duplicate of the Spanish GP 1st place trophy he should have received in 1973. The trophy was even built by the same artist that made the original. The trophy was a complete surprise for Jim. It was presented to him during the riders meeting Sunday morning in a moving ceremony that resembled an episode of "This Is Your Life".

The effort to get Jim his Spanish GP trophy began two years ago, spearheaded by Woody Graves, Ron Pomeroy, and Belgium moto-cross racer Raymond Boven. Many friends and fans of Jim Pomeroy contributed to the cost of duplicating the original Spanish GP trophy, and a plaque with the names of those people was also presented to Jim.

The Pomeroy/Spanish GP trophy presentation was just part of a great weekend that made The 6th Annual Chehalis Classic the best Chehalis Classic so far.

Thank You for your inquiry of the Texas Vintage Racing Club. Listed above is the confirmed schedule for the remainder of 2003. Other events may get scheduled or we may attend other organizations events. We have scheduled 3 events at the North Forty to continue development of the only track in Texas that caters strictly vintage events with vintage terrain other than annual 1 time national events. Pictures of the track are in the gallery above.Experiments at new and old tracks find us trying to ride vintage on super cross style tracks. Even the tamest are a compromise. Our constant goal is fun and safe events for vintage riders protected with medical  personnel and equipment present. Last to note is our Anniversary Renewal $30.00 is the end of December for all years. With half the year 2003 gone Dues is $20.00. Membership Form

Crash n Burn

Mid Ohio News

President Bobby Lucas was involved in a crash in practice and became a pin cushion for a competitors falling motorcycle. He is Still in he Mansfield Ohio hospital room phone 419-521-7999 suffering from broken ribs and a punctured lung. Ouchhh!!!. Britt and Mary Lambert monitored initial care and are bringing his hardware home. Al Buehner and the Penton Owners Group are watching over him in Ohio. Welcome Back Bob

Bobby was delivered home along with a bent Penton 400 and a bandage covering the hole in his right chest. Karin drove the recovering trooper home this week and he will be recovering for a few more days before returning to work. He is moving slow but in good spirits. With the 400 bent he plans to take it easy on the experts this fall with a 250. Confirming the fall schedule has been his topic of discussion along with a few hospitol horror stories. Imagine not getting a drink of water except for an IV from Sunday morning practice till Tuesday. Tied to a 6 ft plastic tube in his chest body functions finally came around by mid week. In times of injury the most simple things are hard to do and missed the most.

Our deepest sorrows are for Frank Spangler in the loss of his wife. Frank and his wife Pam of Longview Texas were involved in a tragic highway accident traveling home from a vintage race. Rear ended by a 18 wheel truck destroying his mobile home rig. The Truck Driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. Pam tragically was killed in the crash

Hello Americans: A reflection upon our American heritage just before enjoying our upcoming holiday.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.

They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.

What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated. But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson Jr. noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters.

He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart.

Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates.

Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution. These were not wild-eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education. They had security, but they valued liberty more.

Standing tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged: "For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor." They gave you and me a free and independent America. The history books never told you a lot about what happened in the Revolutionary War. We didn't fight just the British. We were British subjects at that time and we fought our own government!

Some of us take these liberties so much for granted, but we shouldn't.

So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid. Remember: freedom is never free!

I hope you will show your support by please sending this to as many people as you can. It's time we get the word out that patriotism is NOT a sin, and the Fourth of July has more to it than beer, picnics, and baseball games.
