South Central Regional Series

The North Forty Cycle Park held Round Two of the Rough Riders Series. A beautiful day, and RACING FOR THE FUN OF IT!

David Henry, owner and avid Vintage racer, put forth a tremendous effort for all who raced today. Combined with trials Motocross and Short Track, spectators & racers had fun.

First Motocross event, the Sportsman Division, had Chris (Chile Pepper) Richardson out front for a few laps. Chris would be passed by Richard Reeves on a YZ 250, and Richard would win both exp. motos overall and 1st 250. Chris would take 1st 500 and 2nd over all. Red Griffin, on a TM 400, would ride the 1st moto to 2nd 500 EXP, but in moto II, would low side in the 1st turn, remount and charge back to 3rd 500 & 2nd overall 500 EXP.

Bobby Lucas killed his Penton @ the gate in moto I, but would finish 2nd 250 EXP & 6th overall in moto I. Moto II, he would run up front with Richard Reeves and Chris Richardson for 3rd over all and 2nd 250 EXP.

Scott Anderson, TM 400, & Dave Allard, KX 400, had some what of a rough day. Scott ran well in moto I until his TM just died allowing Super Dave Allard to pass. Moto II for David ended with a tangle with Red Griffin. Scott earned a 2nd in moto II for a 3rd 500 Inter. over all. Dave Allard said he was talking to Elvis, and didn't have time to finish moto II. Something about a new LP?!

David Henry's first ride on a Penton went well finishing 1st over all 500 Inter. David Fournier, Maico 400, gets faster and finished 3 & 2 for a solid 2nd. New Maico pilot, Chris Morton, looked fast on his 400, but a second moto high side left him and Dave Allard looking for Elvis, a gold record?!

Carl Keller's, Baltaco was really cooking (no pun intended) as he bested the other 250's in a 1 & 1 performance. The "Miller Time" boys skip 250 Penton and Mark TM 250 battled with 6 gears being the winning factor Skip would finish 2 & 2 and Mark 3 & 3.

Neil Turner and Jody Harris would bout for the novice crown with Neil besting the DTI of Jody. Jody has heart to keep riding a DTI. Neil's Honda 250 looks strong and ran strong.

Historic Racing was next combined with Ultima. Joe Busby, 250 Honda, would lead all laps. Ron Short, Maico 440, road the first moto, finished 2nd but DNR 2nd moto - What's up Ron? Chad Claus, 250 Honda, would go 3 & 2 for 2nd overall. Tom Baker, also Honda 250, would go 4 & 3 for 3rd.

Historic champ, Chris Richardson, 400 Penton finished in the Ultima pack for a 1 & 1 1st overall. Scott Anderson would try to challenge Chris, but a TM can't challenge a MC5…. get a RM, Scott. Penton riders, David Burgess, Skip Miller, and Baltaco Carl Keller would battle for two motos, but Skip would prevail going 1 & 1. Sam Kerby, the only Novice, was taking notes… he was unchallenged and getting faster.

125 Grand Prix winner on an Elisnore was Joe Busby… he just gets faster. Chris Barton, Can Am, and Ken Walden, Yamaha, went @ it and it looked like Ken might beat Chris, but on the last lap of the second moto Chris would pass has Can Am into 2nd and 2nd overall.

Ronnie Snyder, Baltaco rider from Adia, OK., showed up to battle this day and he and Chris Morton, 125 Honda, put on a good race. Welcome, you two. We need more like you!

The last race held everyone's attention as Big Bores abounded. Maicos 490, Huskys 430, and a lone KTM 420 pulled out the jams.

Joe Busby & Maico 490 would lead the first moto and win, but moto II, Richard Reeves would lead until an untimely exodus from the saddle, prompted a remount. Richard really was cooking on the Maico. Rod Griffin's Maico was fast and consistent with a 3 & 2 score. Ken Walden & Husky 430 would finish a close 4 & 3 for a 4th overall. Bobby's KTM broke the rear hub and declined to finish.

In closing, I would like to thank everyone who has supported this series, and ask all to support those who support us. Work Performance sent $1200.00 worth of gift certificates for Oak Hill's National.

Note: @ the Wyman Priddy event, a book will be on sale about Wyman, but it's also about Motocross @ the time he raced. All whom he raced with is in this book. You want one, Trust me.

Be There!
